Spray instead of paint:
It’s faster with the paint sprayer. The paint spray gun is based on the atomization system. This is familiar, for example, from cosmetics in the bathroom or from plant sprayers in the garden.
The liquid, in this case, the paint, is split into an infinite number of small droplets by compressed air or hydraulic energy.
The air exits through the valve in the nozzle in a ring shape, transporting the paint droplets and bringing them like a mist to the surface to be treated.
As a result, a very uniform paint application is achieved – especially on rough surfaces.
The application of paint by means of a compressed air spray gun has several advantages and disadvantages compared to brushes and rollers:

How the paint is transported.
The paint or varnish can be transported from the container to the nozzle in different ways. Most units in paint gun tests use one of the following methods.
- Gravity Feed: The container is located above the nozzle. The liquid feed flows into the nozzle due to gravity.
- Pressure Tank: For thicker inks, the tank is pressurized so that the contents are carried to the nozzle.
- Suction cup: In this method, the ink is sucked out of the container through a vacuum tube. For this purpose, the ink must not be too viscous.

Different Types of Paint Spray Guns
Compressed air paint spray guns or paint spray devices in tests can be divided into four categories. At this point we would like to introduce you to the different versions.
Battery sprays system: Devices in this category run on batteries and allow you the greatest possible freedom of movement.
Mains operated spray system: These paint sprayers are sold as a closed system. Most of these devices in paint spray gun tests use the HVLP method.
Airless system: Due to their complex hydraulics, devices like the Wagner airless spray gun are usually more expensive to buy. They are particularly suitable for large areas and viscous paint such as wall paint.
Airbrush: These smaller spray guns are mostly used in the artistic field. They work with little pressure and use very little color.
What to look for when buying a paint spray gun?
If you want to buy an electric paint spray gun, you should consider some criteria so that you purchase a suitable device.

You should not base your choice of electric spray gun on price: Even inexpensive paint spray guns achieve good results; it does not have to be a professional paint spray gun.
Mode of operation
The intended use determines which type you should choose.
If you want to paint or glaze your garden fence, for example, you should go for a paint spray system. Alternatively, you can also equip your compressor with a gun head.
With these two variants, you can spray on thin-bodied paints and glazes particularly accurately.
In addition, you can work very comfortably with these devices: The paint flow can be adjusted directly on the handle with devices such as the Bosch PFS 1000.
Paint sprayer tests have shown that airless sprayers are best suited when it comes to applying fresh paint to walls or facades.
The hydraulic system of a paint spray gun generates sufficiently high pressure to atomize even thicker paints.
However, the purchase of such a system is really only worthwhile if you are tackling large areas.
In addition to the purchase costs, you also have to reckon with maintenance costs here.
Tip: Exercise caution when working with an airless system. Due to the high pressure, the risk of injury is higher here.
Another aspect you should consider is the power supply of the paint sprayer.
With mains-powered equipment, you may be restricted in your freedom of movement.
Moreover, you will always have to handle or at least keep an eye on the cable, which is necessary for the power supply.
Paint spray guns with rechargeable batteries have the advantage of great freedom of movement.
However, they are somewhat limited in terms of battery life. If the battery charge is no longer sufficient, paint droplets are no longer produced.
In tests, this has led to a rather uneven paint surface with many spray guns.
When buying a paint gun, for example, a Wagner paint spray gun, also pay attention to the size of the container.
If you need to paint large areas, a large container is advantageous because you do not need to constantly fill the container.

Which nozzle is right for your paint spray gun?
As a rule, various nozzles are included in the scope of delivery of the devices in paint spray gun tests.
These differ in size, i.e. the diameter of their opening. The thicker your paint is, the larger the nozzle of the paint sprayer must be.
Which paint is best suited for the paint spray gun?
You can use a thin-bodied paint with any device in paint sprayer tests. Often, paints are thinned with a little water for optimal processing.
However, if you want to spray wall paints or emulsion paints, you need an airless system. Not every paint spray gun is suitable for wall paint.
How do you use a paint spray gun?
Using a paint sprayer is quite simple. Paint or varnish is filled into the suction cup and the nozzle of the paint gun is set to a flat jet.
This can be aimed horizontally or vertically. Run the nozzle over the surface to be painted, making sure to maintain a consistent distance.
Optimum results are achieved if you spray once horizontally and once vertically.
Do not underestimate the spray mist that is produced when working with a paint spray gun: tape the surrounding area carefully to avoid unwanted paint splashes.
How do you clean a paint spray gun?
Since paint and varnish dry not only on the treated wood but also in the container and valves of the paint spray gun, you should clean the paint sprayer after use.
Because most paints and varnishes are water-based, cleaning with plain water is sufficient.
Thinners such as turpentine are only necessary for paints and varnishes that are solvent-based.
To clean, rinse the container as well as the hose and nozzle with plenty of clear water and then allow the parts to dry thoroughly.
